I have been listening to Brick since I was a kid and Jimmy Brown’s flute was always funky. It was such an honor to be able to play “Dazz” in tribute to Brick while standing right next to him at the #LegendaryAwards ! Thankfully, we were able to capture a bit of it… :)

I had the distinct honor of participating in a 2-day marathon recording session with Melba Moore!  Producer/songwriter Dennis Johnson and songwriter Zoiea Ohizep created two songs for Ms. Moore’s upcoming release, Forever Moore: It’s My Time Again and I performed the background vocals.  I learned so much from her about the industry (both music and theater) and of course, studio techniques.  Any time I can learn from a Tony Award winning, Grammy nominated veteran is time well spent!!

20140321_110012Today I did a musical presentation for the second graders at Stonewall Tell Elementary School and I had such a great time!  It’s wonderful to see music in the schools and even better to see 80 seven-year-olds really get into it.  They knew what instrument family the flute belongs to and their rhythm was impeccable.  Their music teacher, Ms. Bradley, should be commended!

A little background on Ms. Rushen:

Multi-Grammy nominated artist, Patrice Rushen, is fashioning her career after the legacy of her long-time friend and mentor, Quincy Jones. Composer…Producer…International Recording Artist…Rushen has definitely earned the respect she has been awarded by her peers in the music industry. Admired by many for her groundbreaking achievements, Rushen has amassed an impressive list of “firsts”. She was the first woman to serve as Musical Director for the 46th, 47th & 48th Annual Grammy Awards, the first woman in 43 years to serve as Head Composer/Musical Director for television’s highest honor, the Emmy Awards and the first woman Musical Director of the NAACP Image Awards, an honor she held for 12 consecutive years.
